It has been MANY years since we’ve been on a team for “Team Challenge”, but when my friend from Lexington inquired, we couldn’t think of anything more fun ! Gretchen and Jubilee joined their Lexington friends as a member of Team CEO’s Fire and Ice in the BN division. As you can see by the photos, this is no ordinary horse trial. Custom colors are common on cross country, but this event takes things to a whole new level. Oh my goodness, these girls were wild, WILD !! So, what do you get when you have four teenage girls, 24 cans of colored hairspray, glitter, duct tape, and face paint? Four embarrassed horses and memories to last a lifetime.
Gretchen and Jubilee put in a solid dressage test, scoring in the mid-thirties and landing her in the ribbons. A double clear stadium locked her into 6th place individually. She was thrilled. Her stadium was consistant, controlled, and in an egg-butt snaffle. Something we’ve been working on.
Cross country came on a gorgeous sunny afternoon in the Bluegrass state. My darling daughter was so excited to be going cross country on a multi-colored horse, with her frineds, and in her snaffle (another first) that she well, forgot how to count. Somehow, jump #12 came immediately after jump #10. There was, in fact, a jump #11 on the course. ooops. Gretchen picked up her first TE ever.
I took my beloved green horse, Teddy and joined Team CEO’s Irish Invasion team. We were the ‘old ladies’ of the group and chose to leave the colored hairspray on the shelves. However, a little face paint made it’s way onto the horses in the shape of a shamrock, in honor of everyone’s Irish roots.
Teddy is my favorite. He is out of my favorite mare of all time, and my own stallion. We are learning so much from each other with every stride and my goal with Teddy was simply to put some miles on him and complete the horse trial…and have FUN !! Teddy’s goal was to avoid looking as colorful as Jubilee did before cross country.
Double clear in both stadium and cross country left Teddy in 11th place individually and more confident for the next time. Special Thanks to Jesse for taking care of everyone at home while we were away for the weekend. Kelly for his magic fingers to make Teddy feel better. Megan for her help and friendship. Grant for opening so many gates when we go x-c schooling and never complaining. Mr. Martin, for seeing that our wheels will get us there safely !

What a Weekend !!!!

First, we’d like to congratulate Kaylen Moorn of Tn., and former WRF’s Scusami for their 3rd. place finish at the American Eventing Championships in Georgia this past weekend!! What a HUGE accomplishment for this adorable pair, out of a gigantic division of 65 starters!!!! Kaylen and Scusami were ONLY 2/10 of a point out of FIRST place after dressage and held on to their spot after a double clear cross country. One teensy little rail moved them to 3rd, and we couldn’t be prouder of these girls! Stellar job, Kaylen !!!
Back in Ky., we had a wonderful x-c schooling on Sunday afternoon under a picture perfect September sky. Gretchen and Jubliee had some valuable lessons and by the end of the day, they rocked the bank complex, schooling their first Prelim. bank with confidence. Awesome !!!!

This past weekend, we put the truck on auto pilot and ended up in one of our favorite places. Team CEO always puts on a great event and there’s no better mini trial in the area. The courses are very friendly, inviting and built to give confidence.

Lourie and Max
This was a big step for this new pair. Lourie and Max have been working very hard over the past couple of months and it showed. Max has recently developed a lovely, soft, canter on the bit (in both directions), a positive work ethic and the emerging topline to show for it. This off track Tb. is becoming more and more consistant in his work and truly loves his new job. Max and Lourie put in a respectable dressage test with only a couple of hiccups from Max’s enthusiasm to show off his leads. They were 4th after dressage. A picture perfect cross country round, and another double clear stadium round ended their first horse trial in 3rd. place–finishing on their dressage score out of 11 starters in their division. We’re so proud of this pair and know we’ll continue to see great results in their future.

Jeri and Euroshon

This weekend was a bit of an opportunity to get off of the farm and school over a very nice course. Eurosohn had not been ridden consistantly over the past month and I wondered what I’d have under me. However, I forgot to tell my equine partner and he tried very hard to put his best hoof forward with every step. This little bay gelding is always full of surprises. Like his sire, I have discovered that even under inconsistant circumstances, he starts off both mentally and physically, right where he left off. I LOVE this horse! He was an absolute blast!! Another lovely dressage test, a strong double clear cross country, and unfortunately one lazy rail dropped him to a 4th place finish in the beginner novice division. I am so pleased with the confidence that has come out in this guy. He has really come into his own self this year and is ready to begin moving on to bigger jumps and harder work.
A BIG thank you to Mindy for taking care of the critters while we were away.

Aristocracy Brings Smiles

We gladly welcome our newest aquisition, “The Aristocrat” to the WRF string of horses. This gorgeous 17.2h. gelding is already a barn favorite. He has personality plus and is absolutely stunning!! He has been ridden through the Preliminary level and will now be focusing his talents as Jeri’s dressage mount for 2011. We are absulutely giddy with excitement over our new family member. Farewell Faith

A play on words, I assure you! However, our four year old Trakehner mare, FaithinHim has gone to her new home in Lexington, Ky. Faith was bred and born here at WRF where she has been initially broke. She is by our Trakehner stallion, Elijah and out of the late Trakehner main book mare, Fedora. Faith is a 1/2 sister to Permesso and Scusami (both U.S.E.A. Area Champions for 2009)
Faith was awarded her Red Preferred at her AWS inspection and her fabulous walk was used as the example for all to follow the entire day!!!
We have seen this mare doing two-tempis in the field with ease and know that she will excell at whatever she is faced with. We congratulate her new owner and cannot wait to see her on the national leader board very soon!!!

It’s always an adventure to set out for a horse trial with family and horses in tow. This one was extra special, as Gregg was able to come with us and volunteer from the office. His first horse trail since Rolex, and probably his last. It was a great day of family, great friends, and many goals exceded.
I absolutely LOVE mini-trials for the horses who are either young, or young in thier minds. Team CEO is by far the best mini trial in the area for confidence building, friendliness, professionalism, and superb facilities.A BIG Thank You to our friends at team CEO–you guys are the BEST!
Gretchen wanted to simply complete a horse trial at Beginner Novice, with confidence on Beauty. He didn’t let her down. These two are really becoming a nice pair. A solid and steady dressage test showed improvements in the areas we’ve worked on, and room for improving in the areas we’re ready to move on to. Cross country was the confidence builder this pair needed together. A couple of stops to chaulk up to experience dropped them in the placings, but finishing with smiles and ready for more was what we’d hoped for–and we got that. Beauty is lovely over stadium, so tight with his knees and forward to the jumps. Together, they finished in 10th (Gretchen was THRILLED to get a light blue ribbon–her favorite color), and WON the award for “closest to optimum time” !!!!
Mouse made her debut in the starter division simply to get her feet wet and see how she’d do in a show atmosphere. We’re impressed by this little lady!!! She was as calm as a cucumber and LOVED her job! Although, I think the many complements she recieived went straight to her head. Elegant, exquisite, gorgeous…just to name a few. We couldn’t agee more. She went right to work in her dressage test (first ever) soring a 33% and landing in 4th place. Cross country was an absolute blast with this little grey mare. I’m not sure who had the most fun… she or Jeri? Nothing phased her. Third time off the farm, fist ever competition of any kind and she handled it like a professional. Stadium was equally as fun and a steady, double clear round brought home the fourth place finsh, on her dressage score. Oh, and she was awarded “Best Cross Country Ride”. Did we mention that this was her first ever competition???
Our beloved Teddy was by far, the most fun to ride. He was confident and in the zone the entire day. Scoring a 23% in dressage set him up to be in the lead by several points in his division.
Cross country was an absolute blast on him. He went fast and double clear to remain in the lead and enter stadium with a rail in hand. Unfortunately, we needed two rails in hand. A split second decision on Jeri’s part and a lazy set of legs on Teddy’s part dropped two rails, and two placings to finish in 3rd. Teddy was also awarded Dressage champion and we couldn’t be happier with our group of horses.
A HUGE Thank you to Rachel for feeding the horses at home while we were away. Thanks to Lourie for acting as the Indy Pit Crew for us all day and taking these wonderful photos.

It Takes Precision……

We could not be happier with the results of this past weekend. First, a BIG congratulations to WRF bred Scusami and her owner/rider Kaylen M. of Knoxville, Tn.
Kaylen and Scusami, aka Biscuit, WON the Beginner Novice Rider Championships for Area III, held in Chatsworth, Ga. This pair finished on their dressage score of 29.1, holding the lead from start to finish in a large division. The Biscuit is out of a Poprad mare (Tk.), and by our Tk. stallion, Elijah. Purchased by our friends at Team CEO Eventing as a four year old, she was given a solid foundation with which to build her path to success. Way to go Kaylen!!!!

Next, Precision Cast and his new owner/rider, Beth Geiser of Lou., Ky. WON a HUGE Novice division on their dressage score of 35 at Greater Dayton Horse Trials in Dayton, Oh. Tied for second after dressage, and remaining there after a FAST double clear stadium round, “Fuji” could not wait for the cross country–his forte’. Beth and Fuji attacked this novice course as though it was their first prelim. that required taking a little jog set towards the end of the course, so as not to pick up a speeding ticket. With only mere seconds left, they crossed the finish flags and moved into a solid first. This was the first novice H.T. for this pair and Beth’s first USEA HT since 2007!!! AWESOME ladies!!!!!!

Kentucky Oaks Day Camp

Campers enjoy painting our paint pony

The sun shined bright on our Kentucky home for our first Ky. Oaks Day Camp and it was a HUGE success. God Blessed us with a gorgeous, warm, sunny day—Much to the contrary of the remaining weekend of thunderstorms and flash flooding. “Campers” enjoyed small group lessons, horse games, mounted obstacle courses, unmounted games, arts and crafts and ofcourse, watching the Oaks and cheering on their favorite horse and jockey. A very special THANK YOU to Mrs. Glenn for giving of her time and yummy food for our campers. We’re lining up our summer camps between competitions and horse shows, so keep checking back or request to be added to our email list for updates.

Spring Bay Opens TODAY!!!

Spring Bay Horse Trials opens today and after the winter we’ve had, I like anything with the name ‘spring’ in it.
So with 25 more days till spring officially begins, there are just 6 weeks till the first Horse Trial in Kentucky. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn’t it?
