With Heavy Hearts….

April 14, 2009

The past 21 hours has been a roler coaster of emotions for us at Wind Ridge Farm. Our beloved Main book Trakehner mare delivered a gorgeous BIG colt last night at 10:30pm. Everything seemed fine at first. Unfortunately, we lost our mare early this morning and are working hard to save our little “Easter Bunny” now. Please say a prayer for uor orphan colt.

What a gorgeous dressage day we had and the folks at Spring Run were great hosts as usual. Lindsay and Fuji are showing great promise and making HUGE strides, both literally, and figuratively in their tests. SO much improvement in a very short time. Both shook off the nerves and had two respectable tests, with a greatly improved second score over the first test. Something we love to see. We’re all so excited to see how this pair will grow together this summer as they re-visit their eventing careers.
Lourie and Star were fabulous in both tests, coming home with a second and a fourth place. You’d think by watching that they’d been together more than just a few weeks! These two make it all look so easy. Way to go Lourie! Keep up the great work for more stellar rides.

OKay, so this morning, it’s snowing. Yes, SNOWING!!!!!! May Daze opened today, Greater Dayton opened last week and Area VIII is warming up it’s eventing season, and it’s snowing. UGH! Just the thought of galloping across our area’s fabulous cross country courses warms me up!
Last week was absolutely a blast with our working students here. ALthough the weather made many things difficult, we were able to get a few things done on and off the horses.
Now, full time foal watch begins. Our Mane book Trakehner mare, Fedora is expecting her third foal by our oldest stallion, Elijah. We can hardly wait and everyone is giddy with the excitement of a new foal. There’s just something about spring in the bluegrass. Any bets on whether it’s a filly or colt? Chestnut coloring is a given…..markings anyone? Keep watching our blog. We’ll post photos and make the birth announcement as soon as she folas. Well, maybe after we all catch up on some sleep.
So, who’s joining us at Greater Dayton Horse Trials? MayDaze anyone? Sayer School Combined Test? Flying Cross Mini Trial? So many choices, so little time.
