Georgetown Horse Trials

August 18, 2009

The weekend isn’t completely over yet, and we cannot wait till the next Team CEO event ! It is by far the friendliest, best laid out, well run mini trial we’ve ever been to. This time, we moved Teddy up a notch. This little guy amazes me. He is so level headed in a show atmosphere, and in the dressage ring where it really pays off. He was a little tense in the warm-up with the other horses riding by. He still thinks that every paint is a freak of nature and something to fear. However, once he passes through the in-gate at A, he’s all business. Teddy placed every hoof oh so carefully and cantered like a dream, scoring a stellar 20.5 % at BN test B !!!!! Teddy had the BEST dressage score out of ALL divisions for the entire day !!!!!! What a champ he was ! Winning teh dressage was short lived, as he is still convinced that there are pink elephants hiding beneath every cross country and stadium fence. His inexperience dropped him to 9th, but the time on course and education he recieved yesterday was fabulous and exactly what he needs to continue moving forward in his career.
Beauty was more than happy to step up to the plate when Jeri needed to scratch another horse. We were absolutely thrilled with his performance. He tried very hard in the dressage, scoring a lovely, well deserving 28 % !! A pilot error cost him a refusal on cross country, but he was double clear on stadium to finish 8th. His first finish in a Horse Trial.
Jubilee was her usual dream jumping bean ! This was Gretchen’s third Novice with her and they have never looked so confident, nor had this much fun. We were at Team CEO, afterall, where fun is a given. This pair, once again, were double clear in cross country and stadium finishing a very strong 4th place.
A VERY special THANK YOU to our friends at Team CEO for their “chilling” and fast response when Jeri began to overheat. The 6th ride of the day in 90 degree heat was apparently a bit too much and these people swung into action like a well oiled machine ! You guys are the best!

Closng ceremonies/Quiz only...Where's Waldo?

DSC_0019As many of you know, Gretchen qualified for the Eastern US Pony Club Nationals by winning the regional quiz in Nashville, Tn. this past February. So, last Wednesday, she and Jeri made the 7 hour trip to Lexington, Virginia to represent the Mid-South Region. There were about 44 teams total, representing regions from as far away as Alaska. Gretchen was in the Junior-D division that included 24 teams. As the only Junior-D from the Mid-South region to attend nationals, Gretchen was put on a composit team made up of three others from across the country. The competition was fierce ! These clubbers sure do know their stuff ! National Quiz: 2 1/2 days of oral questions, written tests, hands on barn testing, and LOTS of nerves !! Anyone know how much a Polocrosse ball weighs? What two boots make up a combination boot? What are the letters understood down center line? What does it mean to ‘cast’ the hounds? Whew !! Some she knew, and a few she didn’t. All in all, her team finished in 13th place. Individually, Gretchen finished in a strong 8th place out of about 96 other kids !!!!! How cool is that ? Unfortunately, Nationals only ribbons team efforts, and individuals are not recognized, as they are in regionals. We’re VERY proud of her achievement, skills, and knowledge that will carry Gretchen far into the future. What a wonderful program Pony Club is.
On a different note, obviously, we’re not at Penny Oaks this weekend. Family medical issues prevail. We are planning on attending Jump Start, Flying Cross, and Mid-South Team Challenge. Let us know if you’re going to any of these and we’ll be sure to cheer you on to victory ! Keep your heels down and the fuzzy side up !
