Flying Cross H.T.

Lourie and Star completed their first USEA recognized Novice Horse Trial this weekend at Flying Cross. The weather was absolutely perfect, well, Saturday. They had an amazing dressage ride -very calm, cool and collected- with only a teensie couple of bobbles to land them only 6/10 of a point behind first place with a score of 28.5, in a large and quite competitive division. Stadium was a bit challenging with many bending lines and a few questions. Lourie did an excellent job piloting Star to a double clean round. Now for a good night’s sleep and the exhileration of cross country on Sunday, right? God decided to soften the footing a bit for all competitors and dumped a huge rain overnight. I was so glad to have scratched my Prelim. horse. It was pouring till after 9 am and everyone was drenched and cold. Only one Prelim combination made the time, out of all the Prelim. divisions.Lourie and Star were fortunate to ride just after lunch, so things had soaked in a bit and it was becoming a lovely day. Sloppy footing, but a lovely day. I could not have been more proud of this pair. They had a flawless round, jumping each jump right out of stride, and in perfect harmony to have another double clear round and finish in second place on their dressage score in their first ever USEA Novice!!!
